Attached at some more detailed results from yesterday. It includes the splits for each runner and the average, as well as a projected 5k race time if the athlete maintained the average pace for 3.1 miles. I’d suggest this is a 5k pace athletes could manage in better weather and/or later in the season.
Shoutouts to Eli & Mason (8th) and Graham & Amir (16th) for earning top 20. Awesome seeing vets and rookies paired up and running well. Will Fornwalt and Jaxon incredibly even with less than 8 secs seperating their fastest and slowest laps! Eli, Micah, Amir, and Micah also with very even pacing.
Gemma & Emerson (11th) are our two senior leaders who led the way and Alexis & Carmela (19th) have put in great summers and have grown so much over the last year! Ainsley, Emerson, Gemma, and Alayna were our 3 ladies with the most consistent pacing.
These were about the toughest conditions we can run. If it was much hotter the event would be cancelled by KHSAA rule.
A few things as we use the results to Reflect and Grow:
1) More extreme conditions or courses require more wisdom and restraint. I loved to fearlessness and competitiveness that many of our athletes showed but some paid a price for being aggressive. On cool days and flat courses you can afford to be more bold than on hot and hill courses.
2) When reflecting on a competition it is not only the final result that you should judge. We had some athletes run very strong in the early going who could not sustain for the duration. With more training and more experience (and cooler days) we can sustain and those early miles are indicative of strong fitness. The sport is hard, excellence requires riding a fine line, and it takes time and foucs to develop that skill.
3) Results do not judge us but results can inform us and give us useful feedback. Look at the results and find some useful feedback on your run.
I am really excited about the group we have and the week we just put togheter. Let’s have another good one!
